Keyworth 5 - East Leake 14

A comfortable victory over local rivals..................

Leake had a comfortable victory over their neighbours in this first round of this Notts. Junior Vase to make it three wins out of three.  Keyworth kicked off and they had first chance off points when Leake were penalised for not releasing the ball. The penalty was wide. A fine tackle by Hind stopped another Keyworth attack before a good break by Bowden down the middle of the field took play into Keyworth’s half.  He passed to Ward but he was hauled down in the 22 but Keyworth were penalised for playing the ball on the floor.  Bowden was on target with the three points.  Good play by Jackson and Weston set up Hind to put in a good run down the wing but he was forced into touch just inside the 22.and Keyworth were able to clear.  A good kick down the touch line from Hogg took play back into Keyworth’s 22 and Leake won the line out allowing the backs to run the ball at long last.  They tried to ship it down the line but Keyworth were penalised for lying on the ball.  Bowden was successful with the three points.  Another break by Bowden and Ward set up Hind who broke down the line but he was forced out just short of the line.  Keyworth couldn’t make much ground with their clearance kick and from the ensuing line out Thurman rose well to set up a rolling maul which Keyworth could not halt and Hind was credited with the first try of the game.  Bowden was just wide with the conversion so the half time score was 0-11. Leake kicked off the second half and regained possession straight away and as they tried to spin the ball wide a lucky interception gave Keyworth a chance but fine tackling back by Weston Astbury and Jackson stopped the chance of a try and the home side were penalised for not releasing the ball which allowed Leake to clear up to the half way line.  Hooker Mace was replaced by Nicholls but as Leake tried another attack a poor kick through went straight to Keyworths full back who ran through to score in the corner and make it 5-11.

Flanker Ward had to be replaced by Green and he was soon into action with a good run into the 22 before he was brought down giving a scrum to Keyworth.  However Nicholls took his third scrum against the head to keep Leake on the attack.  Keyworth were again penalised for not releasing the ball and Bowden took the three points.  Keyworth tried to get back into the game and only a fine tackle by Weston stopped them scoring in the corner.  They couldn’t make anything of the position and Leake ran down the the clock to run out easy winners.  This week Leake are back in League action with an away game at Leesbrook. The highlights of the day were Stewie taking 3 balls against the head to shut up that wingeing dweeble of a hooker and my interesting discussion with Smithie about the world financial crisis which I think we just about sorted.
